Jane Downey, M.Ed, ARM, President of Clarity Concepts, Inc. is a well-known risk management consultant, leadership trainer and frequent public speaker. She is a management consultant who provides risk consulting, insurance broker management, outsourced risk management as well as leadership and team training. Many of her leadership clients work in risk management and insurance.

Ms. Downey is a summa cum laude graduate of Temple University’s Fox School of Business and Management with a dual major in Insurance and Risk Management and Accounting. Along with ranking first in her graduating Risk Management class, Ms. Downey was chosen nationally for a scholarship to the Annual Risk and Insurance Management Society. She completed her Masters in Education at Temple in Adult and Organizational Development.

Ms. Downey founded Clarity Concepts in 1995. With the mission to serve the risk and insurance management community, she has provided a variety of organizations with her consulting expertise. Her risk management clients have included Schott Corporation, Carl Zeiss, Inc., Main Line Health Systems, Genencor International, Entech Creative Industries, Saint-Gobain Corp., Commerce National Insurance Services, Napco and CIGNA International.

Corporate Insurance and Risk Management Experience
Ms. Downey’s corporate experience includes risk management positions with IU International, PaineWebber Group, Inc., and The West Company. She worked as an Account Executive in insurance brokerage with the Hobbs Group. She has served as adjunct faculty at Temple University in Risk Management and at Penn State’s Graduate School in Crisis Management. She served as a board member of the Delaware Valley Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS). Ms. Downey has served as Chair of the Speakers Bureau and Co-Treasurer for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. She is a long-time member of this organization’s Education Committee. Ms. Downey is a founding member of the Delaware Valley fundraising committee for the Spencer Risk Management Educational Foundation. Ms. Downey holds the Associate in Risk Management designation. She was licensed as an insurance broker in New York State and as a non-resident in Pennsylvania. Ms. Downey has completed and submitted all of the requirements for the Pennsylvania resident Property and Casualty brokers license and her application is pending.

Schott Corporation/Carl Zeiss Inc Yonkers and Thornwood, NY. Serve as outsourced Risk Manager for the North America operations of these diversified German owned sister companies. Responsibilities include risk assessment, broker and insurance carrier management, broker selection exercises, claims management, ongoing client communications and coordination with worldwide risk manager. Participate annually in annual EHS conference. Provide quarterly reviews of claims with brokers. Manage broker through monthly open items process.

Special Projects have included:
Property Claims Support Management. Managed insurance broker and property adjusters in major claims. Have facilitated settlements with insurers for major company Property and Business Interruption claims valuing in total in excess of $10 million dollars.

Workers Compensation Claims Reduction. Engaged by Corporate General Counsel and Plant President to assess service providers and internal communications in management of Workers’ Compensation claims. Ongoing project includes quarterly assessment of meeting effectiveness and strategy development between company, legal counsel and providers. Conducted similar program in another major division.

Liability Claims Management. Facilitated insurer settlement and insurer negotiations.

International Risk Management Programme: Facilitated US Property Loss Control inspections. Accompanied worldwide risk manager and Loss Control Engineer to all major US facilities for risk control audit.

Entech Creative Industries. Orlando, FL. Coordinated negotiations of insurance requirements for installation of Ferris Wheel and ongoing wheel operation for national toy company.

Genencor International. Rochester, NY. Conducted broker selection and request for proposal process for all Property and Casualty lines of insurance including coverage to address upcoming IPO issuance. This project was a follow-up to the first engagement to provide a full risk assessment.
